Lexus Korea's First Pure Electric Car Model Will Launch in 2023

Lexus Korea said it would launch its first dedicated pure electric model, the Lexus RZ 450e next year.

Quoted by Antara news agency from the South Korean news agency, Yonhap, the manufacture of the Lexus RZ 450e is part of a plan to present an all-electric battery product in 2035.

Judging from the technical specifications, the Lexus RZ 450e is included in the Sport Utility Vehicle category or large-dimensional SUV. Using a special battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform developed by Toyota Motor Corporation for the Korean market in 2023, said a Lexus Korea official quoted by Yonhap on Tuesday (21/6/2022).

Lexus, a Japanese luxury car manufacturer under the Toyota banner, was initially planning to launch the Lexus RZ 450e model in the United States later this year. Lexus Korea officials revealed this news during a media test drive on Jeju Island, South Korea.

"We will gradually roll out our zero-emissions model in other major electric vehicle markets, which include Europe and China, in line with the global electrification trend," he said.

Last week, Lexus introduced the compact SUV UX300e, an electrified version of the UX petrol hybrid model, and the NX450h+, a plug-in version of the NX petrol hybrid SUV, to boost sales in the country with the fourth largest or leading economy in Asia. The Lexus UX 300e is equipped with a 54.35 kWh lithium-ion battery and can cover a distance of up to 233 km on a single charge. It takes about 80 minutes to fully charge.

Toyota Motor and Lexus will introduce a combined 30 BEV models in the global market by 2030 and aim to sell a total of 3.5 million BEV units in the same year. In particular, Lexus targets to sell 1 million BEVs by 2030 and replace most of its vehicles with BEVs by 2035.
