Leaving Suzuki, Joan Mir Approaches Honda for MotoGP 2023

Joan Mir is not an ordinary MotoGP racer. He was once the 2020 MotoGP world champion with the Suzuki Ecstar Team by riding a GSX-RR motorbike.

Of course, Joan Mir became world champion beyond the expectations of many people in the midst of the MotoGP event which was shrouded in the Covid-19 pandemic.

In fact, Alex Rins, who is Mir's teammate, is more favored. Then, outside of Suzuki, there are names that can win the 2020 MotoGP world champion, such as the 'Baby Alien' Marc Marquez, Fabio Quartararo, Maverick Vinales and Andrea Dovizioso.

The 2020 MotoGP calendar also leaves 14 series, all of which were held in Europe due to the pandemic.

Mir, who was born in Mallorca on September 1, 1997, was 'forced' to terminate his contract at Team Suzuki Ecstar because Suzuki Motor Corporation would not participate in the 2023 MotoGP race despite being under contract with Dorna until 2026,

In a farewell letter that Suzuki shared on the Suzuki-Racing.com website, the manufacturer said it was "forcing Suzuki to divert costs and human resources to develop new technologies" amid the current economic situation.

Launching from Motosan, Mir admitted that in fact he already had plans to renew his contract with Suzuki, but apparently he was told that Suzuki would leave MotoGP at the end of the season at Jerez.

His dream now is to sign a contract with Honda or another brand in order to continue racing in MotoGP.

"From Jerez, I am officially (in) on the (MotoGP) market. I am negotiating (with other teams). We have to sign (a MotoGP contract). Now my manager (Paco Sanchez) will have more work than expected. He spoke "With Honda and other manufacturers to improve the situation. I already made the decision to continue with Suzuki when I heard about his separation," said Mir.

Mir currently has to focus on completing the remaining 15 Grand Prix series. Although, he said, Suzuki had achieved good results so it must be completed this year as best as possible.

"Let's see if we can fight for the title. Nothing will make us happier than getting a good result for them (Suzuki)," he said.
